Having played around with blogs for a few more hours today, I found there are many more layouts for blogs. When I started this blog, there was a minimal choice. I guess the wizard didn't want to overwhelm me. I'd suggest going back through your Layouts to check what might suit you better than the basic-layouts offered.
I've created another blog but this time without advertising links. It does seem to look much better. I'll try improve it as I go and will post a link to it at a later date.
Things I'm still looking into...
- Posting pictures
- Posting videos
- Linking blogs to friend's blogs

Blog + Adsense = $$$'s
One of the first things I recommend you add to a blog is Adsense.
Easy as pie to activate!
Firstly, I assume you have created a blog? You have to be logged into your blog. Click on the "Monetize" tab in the top left of your screen.
Create an adsense account if you don't already have one. It's pretty easy to create an Adsense account too! You'll be guided through their wizard.
How does it work?
Anyone that clicks on adverts posted on your blog (put up by adsense) earns you money. You get a cheque posted to your address... I don't think they could have made it any easier!

I'm creating my first blog here as a step to try teach people how to blog! Talk about blind leading the blind.
If you can read this, then trust me, it's easy and you can do this too! It's taken me a few minutes to sign up, create a blog through the blogging wizard and create this, my first blog.
Hopefully you'll see a few other [grrr] members creating blogs soon.
Only requirement you'll need to create a blog on this site is a gmail account. If you don't have one, sign up here: https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount
Blogger has an easy step-by-step wizard to guide you through the rest of the process. I went through 3 screens and just filled in 2 fields, clicked a checkbox or two, and here I am!
